George's Fourth Letter Dear Friends, Thank you all for your notes of encouragement. I am going to figure out a way to respond to them all, one day. But please know that the things you tell me are definitely encouraging. The Bible Study in Gunnarn’s church on the hill was great last Thursday. Our numbers are picking up – almost to 20 now. Romans Chapter 8 was the center of our attention and the material even elicited a response from one member who saw where that scripture had found fulfillment in her life. That is the way our studies should proceed – to provide freedom for the shy ones to express their insights and faith. I have found that Swedish people are a little hesitant to speak out in our meetings. Personal conversations with them have been a better vehicle for communication. We have several in the group now that really haven’t experience faith in Jesus Christ. One fellow in particular was a philosophy major in college days. We talk together in a way that reminds me of my dormitory Bible Studies back in my college days. Funny thing about Christianity – you have to believe it first before you see it. That is hard for the people of this culture because they want to see the reality first and then they will commit to it. Well, I have proven one thing – I can cook moose meat in a microwave just fine. A lady in the church gave me a plastic container full of good moose meat - that is one delicious type of meat. I see moose in the forest occasionally but wouldn’t shoot one myself – they look so friendly. This past evening I went fishing with several fellows from Gunnarn to a lake near Storuman. Personal evangelism, you know. But, I just must announce that I caught two nice rainbow trout - which will serve as a good dinner next week. That was accomplished with the slight aid of a local fisherman. You see, this fellow fishing enthusiast standing along side of me felt it was his duty to throw out little pellets of feed along side of my sinker. That did the trick. You have to talk fish language. The village of Gunnarn has quite a history. The little old ladies that meet in the church at senior citizen dinners, really like me. I ask them about the good old days. For my interest in where they have been, I know they are grateful. It seems that few have ever asked so many questions about this place and their part in it. They need to be heard – being interested in their story is restorative. I will relate my findings to you when I can pull the material together. Still no car but I thank you for praying that God would supply one so that I can get back into Swedish language school. In Christ George D. Wilson |
